Thursday, Mar. 12 - The Western States Hockey League has announced that the remainder of the 2019-20' season, including the Thorne Cup playoffs, has been terminated due to the possible exposure to the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
In a statement from the WSHL:
"As of 10:00 pm Wednesday March 11, in follow-up to our initial decision based totally on player, staff, spectator, community safety, the WSHL Executive Committee with the approval of the Board of Governors meeting which has taken place at 11:00am Thursday March 12 has terminated the 2019-2020 season, including the league Championship Event – the Thorne Cup."
From all of us at the Fresno Monsters organization, we want to say thank you.
We had a phenomenal 2019-20' season with a great group of men who played their hearts out every shift and never gave up the fight.
We are heartbroken that we will not be able to see them compete in their journey to bring home the Thorne Cup.
We would like to thank all of our sponsors, Selland Arena, and Gateway Ice Center for their continued support throughout this last season and in previous years.
And last, we want to thank you the fans.
Other teams in the league claim they have the best fans around, but that's until they come to Fresno and meet ours. That's something we have great pride in and the one thing we value above all else.
The name on the front of our jersey is more important than the one on our backs.
Thank you for your support this season and coming out to watch us play. Next time bring a buddy though, eh?
We look forward to seeing each and every one of you at Selland Arena next season. Until then, we thank you for your patience and hope you stay healthy.
