Monsters fall 7-2 to Toledo in Game 2 of Nationals

Chesapeake, VA -- It was an early start for the Fresno Monsters with a 10:40 am ET puck drop in Game 2, a game that would see the Monsters plagued by penalties and failed power-play conversions.

How it went down

One minute into the first period and the Monsters found themselves on the power play after a slashing call to Toledo's Ryan Brow but his teammate Drew Welsch would score the first goal of the game, short-handed. Toledo would draw two more penalties in the first, none of which the Monsters could capitalize on. Andrew Blanchette would put Toledo up 2-0 before the end of the first.

The second period is when things got messy as the Monsters would draw three penalties including one major for a hit from behind, Bryce Davis of Toledo would also draw a major for a hit from behind. Despite this setback, Tyler McNeil & Jett Arminen overcame the odds and were able to put the Monsters on the board, each knabbing a goal apiece. Andrew Blanchette of Toledo would get his hat trick here in the third before Luke Metropoulos put Toledo up 5-2.

Fresno had two solid attempts to close the gap in the third as Brendan Higgins and Greg Obrycki would both be sent to the box but were unable to convert the power plays. Cade Moxham would have to serve a 5min penalty for Fresno after Jacob Gagnon was disqualified for a heated argument with the officials.

The final score was Fresno 2 - Toledo 7.
